Soft, sesame-topped yeast buns made the traditional Turkish way. Gorgeous and fragrant, they're just the thing for breakfast or an afternoon snack.

Method

In a well made in the flour, combine the warm milk, vegetable oil, egg, yeast, sugar, and salt.

Knead into a soft dough that doesn't stick to your hands, adding a bit more flour as needed.

Cover with a towel and leave in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours to rise.

Divide the dough into 16 equal portions.

Roll each portion into a rope, twist two ropes together, and firmly pinch the ends to seal.

Place the buns on a baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let proof in a warm spot for another 20 minutes.

Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Bake in a preheated oven at 180 °C (350 °F) until golden brown.
