Method

In a bowl, combine the water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Add the flour and salt, then knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer for about 10 minutes.

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours.

Divide the dough into 2 portions, roll each into a rectangle, roll them up tightly, pinch the seams to seal, and roll them gently under your hands to shape.

Place the loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let proof for another 30-40 minutes.

Use a sharp knife to make diagonal slashes across the top of each loaf.

Bake in an oven preheated to 230°C (450°F) with a bowl of water placed inside for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
