Method
First, sauté the finely minced onion in vegetable oil until golden brown using the "Fry" mode for about 20 minutes, keeping an eye on the results. If your multi-cooker is low-wattage, it will take longer to cook.
It is best to rinse the split peas in advance and cover them with cold water, leaving them to soak for 1-2 hours. This will make them cook much faster.
You can even leave the peas to soak overnight if you plan to make a hearty breakfast the next day. Transfer the onions to a plate, leaving the multi-cooker bowl unwashed; pour in the pre-rinsed peas, add water and salt.
Cook this quick side dish using the "Steam" function, which will take at least 20 minutes in total. Once the peas are tender, transfer them to a blending container (along with any remaining unevaporated liquid), add the onion, and blend until smooth. Return the mixture back to the multi-cooker bowl to reach the desired consistency using the "Stew" mode.
