Skillet Honey Cake

A homemade honey cake made with thin layers cooked right in a skillet, paired with a rich and tender dulce de leche and sour cream frosting.

Method

In a saucepan, combine the butter, eggs, honey, and a pinch of salt.

Place over low heat or a double boiler and stir until smooth and well blended.

Add the baking soda, mix thoroughly, and wait until the mixture begins to foam slightly, then remove from the heat.

Stir in a portion of the flour (about 2 tablespoons) and mix well.

Transfer the mixture to a bowl, add the remaining flour (you may need to add just a little bit more), and knead into a dough.

Divide the dough into 8 portions and roll each one out into a thin round.

Cook each layer on a dry skillet over low heat for 1-2 minutes on each side.

For the frosting, simply whip together the dulce de leche and sour cream until smooth.

Stack the layers one by one, spreading the frosting evenly between each layer.

Before serving, let the cake chill in the refrigerator for a few hours, preferably overnight.
