Rinse the poppy seeds thoroughly. Cook the poppy seeds in milk or water over low heat for about 1.5 hours. Drain the liquid, then mix in softened butter and sugar to taste. You can also grind the poppy seeds through a meat grinder or crush them in a mortar for an even richer flavor.

Add salt, sugar, yeast, egg, melted warm butter, and warm milk to the flour. Mix until you have a soft dough. If you like, drizzle in a bit of oil at the end and knead once more.

Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.

Once the dough has risen, knead it again and shape the buns.

Let the buns rest for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).

Brush the buns with beaten egg and bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
