Method

Take out the butter, egg, and milk in advance so they reach room temperature. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Beat the softened butter with an electric mixer for about 3 minutes, then add the sugar and beat for another 3 minutes or so.

Add the egg and beat until smooth, roughly 2 minutes.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, then mix. Add half of the dry mixture to the butter base, mix briefly on low speed, pour in the milk, and combine again.

Add the remaining dry mixture and fold gently with a spatula.

Grease a 22 cm (8.5-inch) baking pan with butter and dust with a flour and cocoa mixture. Spread the thick batter evenly, and arrange plum halves or quarters on top without pressing them in.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, testing for doneness with a wooden skewer. Let the cake cool completely before slicing.
