Method

Shred the cabbage very thinly. Grate the carrots. Cut the bell pepper into strips. Dice the tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions into bite-sized cubes.

Place the prepared vegetables into a pot (preferably enamel). Add the vegetable oil, granulated sugar, salt, and spices.

Bring the solyanka to a boil and simmer over low heat for about an hour, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Add the vinegar towards the end of cooking.

Ladle the hot solyanka into sterilized jars and seal them. Turn the jars upside down until they have cooled completely.
