Method
Slice the onions into rings about 5 mm thick. Rinse the rings in cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
In a bowl, beat the egg with a fork or whisk. Add the beer, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in the smoked paprika and garlic. Mix thoroughly until smooth.
Dip the onion rings into the batter, making sure to coat the entire surface evenly.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer to about 180°C (350°F). Drop the onion rings into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
Transfer the finished onion rings to paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.
