Method
Dice the onion into small cubes and sauté in vegetable oil until soft. Add the minced garlic at the end, warm through for another minute, and let it cool completely.
Combine the ground meat, sautéed onion with garlic, oatmeal, eggs, salt, and black pepper. Mix the meat mixture thoroughly for 5 to 7 minutes until it becomes dense and homogeneous. Let it rest for 20 minutes. During this time, the oatmeal will absorb some of the moisture and the patties will hold their shape better.
Shape the patties to an even size and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly brushed with vegetable oil.
Bake in a preheated 180°C (350°F) oven for about 25-30 minutes until cooked through. If you want a more golden crust, switch to convection mode or top heat for the last few minutes.
